Mos Def: Back When People Respected…

I went to a interview at 92nd. St. Y in Manhattan yesterday. The interview was great. I couldn’t help but totally agree with Mos Def and explain this to people I met to day. Mos started the platform by letting people know that he is, just a normal person just like you and I, and that he too has emotions, an opinion, and gets annoyed just like us. Then he went on,

using phone

"I miss it back in the day before everyone had a cell phone; back when people respected the fact that you were on the phone before talking to you. I was standing on the street the other day and a guy runs up to me, stands directly in front of me, looks, and spoke about a paragraph and a half. I looked at him and gave the signal that I was on the (Mos gives the pinky to the mouth, thumb in the ear; universal signal for using the telephone) phone. But now I feel like a jerk, because I  had to tell him I was on the phone. I miss it back in the day when people would respect that. When people would just walk up, give you a lil signal like call me (Mos doing the universal signal for using the telephone again)".

I totally agree with him. It’s like people are too high paced, not willing to wait a moment, and totally do not respect the fact that you might be doing something else. It’s as if they have grown to ignore cues or situations you may be in.

Just something to think about.
