The buzz is still poppin. Nas is going to name his new album ‘Nigger’. I don’t have a problem with it. Some people have a serious problem with it. Latest word on the street is some black people and artists puffing up some steam about Fat Joe using the word nigga. If Krs-One does not have a problem with Fat Joe using the word Nigga, I’m all good with it. You can hear Krs-One and Fat Joe on the same track together where the term is casually used. “Fuck em, fuck em; that’s that nigga bitch shit…”, says Fat Joe; Fat Joe Feat. KRS-One - Conscience (Elephant in the Room). By the way, Fat Joe’s latest album is out. Elephant in the Room.

If you are anything like me or into hip hop, you know there is a WORLD of difference between the word Nigga and the word Nigger. They are pronounced very differently, and will mean either an ass whuppin is to commence if used inappropriately, or you are speaking of a cohort, situation, or a person.

I was at an interview with Mos Def where he spoke of the word Nigger and Nigga. He mentioned the word is magical, as it has so much meaning in the many different ways it is used, and who is using it. He got the crowd to laugh when he mentioned the different situations it can be used, and what will happen if used inappropriately. I wholeheartedly agree with him. Even Reverend Al Sharpton jumped on board and had some weak attempts to get African Americans to stop using the term Nigga. Mr. Sharpton, news flash! This will never happen.

My definitions; Nigger is a term used by racist people; used commonly to describe an african american person. Nigga is a term used by people to describe a friend, a foe, or situation, or what not. Regardless of how it is used, Nigga is not used for racist purposes. You can ask any country hick down south. They know how to use it. Even with their broken English where an ‘A’ is put at the end of many of their words, they make sure to put the ‘ER’ at the end of “Nigg” when they want to use it in a racist manner.

All I know is that Nas better bless the street with a hot album, if he wants to go all bold and label it Nigger… This album undoubtedly has already attracted lots of people, and probably will boost his sales. I can imagine lots of educated scholars who have never heard of Nas, but have heard about an album coming out named ‘Nigger’, getting curious and purchasing all of Nas’ albums to see what he is about. I hope Nas is not using this as a method for album sales. If there is a message on the album, I will commend him. If it is club banger trash…. Nas, you may have lost a lifelong fan. If he wants to go all out and use that “magical” word, his album better be hard as fuck. The streets will kill Nas if he does not come with some authentic sounds. We will all see.
