Well, well, well. My good friend is all about Budden. i ain’t never felt the kid. First of all, the name. It’s not catchy. Second of all, he doesn’t have an exciting voice and almost always sounds monotone. Who cares if you can say some slick fly shit. That doesn’t matter anymore. Budden, do you know why down south rappers are poppin right now? It’s because they offer something different. What they offer is change. Change of look, change of style, they make music with their voices, they have dumb dances that are catchy; they PERFORM Joe. The days of being an M.C. and jumping on the stage and expecting the crowd to go nuts if over. If you want the crowd to go nuts, you have to perform. I’ve been a concerts before. I don’t swing my arms all in public and shit; at least not a no Mob Deep concert, Busta Rhymes concert, or shit like that. You know why? Well, it’s a two way street. You have to give the crowd energy, and then they’ll give it back. That is just how it goes my friend.
I feel you in a way though. FUCK NEW YORK! New York City has this attitude that it is too cool for anything. I wholeheartedly agree with you on that. I love it, and I hate it at the same time. Nevertheless, I think your issues are outside of just the New York attitude and are associated with your crowd changing. Give to the crowd, and they’ll give back to you. You can’t expect a crowd full of hard heads to be acting stupid because some guy is rapping on stage. Nobody does that anymore unless you attract the type of crowd that does that. Your raps do not have that audience. Either change your style, or change the venue location. Both afford a change of audience where you may have better success.
